Economic DevelopmentThe library is open on Mondays and Wednesdays 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesdays and Saturdays from 11:00 to 5:00 and Thursday's and Friday's from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Any Brooklyn resident may obtain a library card free of charge. The Brooklyn Library is a member of the Connecticut Library Network, which enables patrons to search the holdings of other libraries throughout the state. Patrons may search the computer for a specific title and either make an interlibrary loan request or visit that library and borrow the book themselves. Internet access, the Encarta Encyclopedia, and Word Perfect for word processing are available for patron use. The day to day operation is the responsibility of Librarian Catherine Tucker.

The library is very active in promoting reading for children of all ages. A story hour is offered in the spring and the fall for preschoolers. For the past two summers the library has supplied a Reading Room at the Brooklyn summer Recreation Program. Library staff provided reading activities, books and games for all children who attend. The library also offers a summer reading game for children who do not attend recreation.

The Friends of the Library contribute in many ways to the library's programs. Each fall they hold a plant and bake sale. This year the Friends purchased passes to the Mashentucket Pequot Museum. These passes are available at the library and allow patrons free admission for 2 adults and 2 children.
